Haldex transmission is an all-wheel drive system (AWD) designed initially for front-wheel-drive vehicles to improve traction when needed. It automatically distributes power between the front and rear axles based on traction. Unlike permanent AWD systems, the Haldex is an “on-demand” system that actives the rear wheels only when required (when the front wheels lose grip). This system is composed of several components such as multi-plate clutch, hydraulic pump, but mostly hydraulic oil and filter: the oil acts as a transmission fluid to activate the components and the filter prevents impurities from damaging the system.
Maintenance advice: Haldex system requires regular maintenance (oil change + filter replacement) ➔ on average every 50 000 to 60 000 km (please refer to your vehicle manufacturer’s).
